Website backups are critical, for a few reasons.
If something goes wrong with your website – like a plugin conflict, and suddenly things just don’t look or work right, you can restore your site to a recent, fully functioning backup. Then you have some breathing space to evaluate the issue and resolve it without breaking your site again.
If you have made a bunch of changes, and you’re not happy with them, you can restore a backup, and be back where you were. If you simply want to revert to a previous version of a single post or page, there is an even simpler way to do this – use WordPress page or post revision history to step your page or post back in time.
Backups can help if you’re hacked!
A lot can be done to prevent hacking: a secure server, your SSL certificate, security plugins, and most importantly, regular updates and maintenance! But even the most secure sites are sometimes targeted by hackers. If you have daily backups in place, you can revert to a pre-hacked version of your site, as long as you have not let it go unmaintained for a long period of time.
